Buckeyes at the Bay

By Lon Briggs

On Saturday, March 18th , 33 members of The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Hawaii participated in the tri-annual beach clean up at Hanauma Bay. Starting at 8:00 A.M., Sheila Mackertich, Clean up Coordinator introduced the three separate groups of participants and explained the procedures and areas to be cleaned. Lisa Bishop, President of the Friends of Hanauma Bay, then gave a presentation on the history of the Bay and its importance to the local community.

Following the completion of the clean up the members also attended a video, which further explained the significance of the Bay and the stewardship it requires. Our membership left with a greater appreciation for Hanauma Bay and a sense of satisfaction that our community service project helped meet that goal.
