Friends of Hanauma Bay at the Inaugural Hoa Ho’olaulea Event at the Waikiki Aquarium!

Saturday, October 14, 2023, the Waikiki Aquarium was filled with small Halloween creatures for  the inaugural Hoa Ho’olaulea event. This family-friendly celebration had a Glow in the Dark theme where children and their parents could wear costumes celebrating their favorite Halloween characters.

Friends of Hanauma Bay was one of the community stewardship organizations invited to showcase our educational activities to a diverse and engaged audience. Our booth highlighted reef-friendly sunscreen, exhibits of ocean pollution collected at the bay, creature bookmarks that could be colored for the young  artist’s taste, and an extremely popular game of identifying the animals’ habitat at the bay.

We want to thank Anke Roberts for her effort to create this game as it has been very popular at every event where it has been used to help educate people on steps everyone can take to put trash and recycleables where they belong to benefit the marine life at Hanauma Bay.

One hundred and fifty people of all ages passed through our booth exhibit, and many learned firsthand about both the Friends and Hanauma Bay. Hoa Ho’olaulea ended with a fun and creative Halloween costume parade and contest.

Mahalo to Paul Halvorson, and Lon and Leslie Briggs for representing FOHB at the event and to the Waikiki Aquarium for inviting us!
