See Congressman Ed Case testimony before NOAA on this landmark legislation.

H.R. 1834, the Defending Our National Marine Sanctuaries from Damaging Chemicals Act of 2019, is before the U.S Congress.  This legislation, introduced by Congressman Francis Rooney and co-sponsored by Congressman Ed Case, will have the effect of banning two toxic chemicals, oxybenzone and octinoxate, within the National Marine Life Sanctuaries.  This is a huge step forward in protecting marine sanctuaries and the environment.  Its significance simply cannot be overstated.  This legislation has great bi-partisan support, so FOHB are hopeful that we will see passage.

On January 8, 2020 several of our Hawai’i Legislators forwarded a letter in strong support of this legislation to The Honorable Jared Huffman, Chairman, Water, Oceans, and Wildlife Subcommittee, and also to The Honorable Tom McClintock, Ranking Member, Water, Oceans, and Wildlife Subcommittee.  You can read this strong endorsement here: HR1834 Hawai’i Legislators’ Testimony to Ed Case with Stakeholder Signatures.    Hawai’i Legislature Signers/Stakeholders are:
