Mahalo for Doing the Right Thing!
Monday, October 30, 2023, Friends of Hanauma Bay received a small package fromVietnam in our post office box. Hai Dao’s family visited Hanauma Bay on June 3, 2023 and took three pieces of coral back to their home in Hanoi. However, the family conscientiously returned the pieces to the bay along with this note:
“These rocks were taken from Hanauma Bay on June 3 rd, 2023. I would like to return these to the island of Oahu. Sorry for all the troubles that we caused.”

The corals were promptly returned to the bay, with mahalo to the family who sent them back home.
Hanauma Bay is the State of Hawaii’s oldest marine Life Conservation District. Since the purpose of MLCDs is to protect marine life to the greatest extent possible, the taking of any type of living material (fishes, shells, corals, algae, etc.) and non-living habitat material (sand, rocks, coral skeletons, etc.) is prohibited at Hanauma Bay.
